Modern Cottage Chic… Carey’s Soul-filled Home…

August 17, 2010

Yesterday I had the privilege of being invited to Carey’s first  home (a very dear friend of Amy) that was primarily furnished from “The Moon” OMG I couldn’t get my camera out fast enough. She called her style Modern Cottage Chic.

Carey, Amy and a host of mutual  friends including Amy’s husband Chris basically gutted this nondescript 1980′s home and the transformation was dramatic! I hope you enjoy the tour as much as I did.

The Closing on this long-awaited project was 2-22-10! The renovation begins!

This narrow painted bench originally from the coast of France purchased at the Moon fits within a quarter inch of the front door clearance….Serendipity! Great landing for our handbags! Of course we are all coveting Amy’s Chloe bag!

Gateleg table turned sofa table purchased at the moon painted by Amy.

Pillows from the moon.

How fun is this zebra stripped slipcover made by friends of Amy,David and Marian.  Side table from Home Goods.

Another famous media window cabinet made by Homer. Our customers are keeping Amy so busy she hasn’t had the time to white wash the new lumber but it is still such a statement!

How cute are these suitcases turned side table.

Caned chair and chandelier from the moon.

Dining table was made by the very talented Homer. The top is a painted barn door.  Chairs purchased from the moon. Window treatments from Anthropologie.

Kitchen island made by of course Homer! The ends are windows, so clever!

This is the very famous chandelier that hung in Blue Moon for a very long time awaiting the renovations at Carey’s home. We had daily offers to purchase it.  It is fabulous!

These two mid-century modern chairs arrived at Blue Moon with the original fabric in mint condition. Side table purchased at the Moon painted by Amy.The fireplace went through the biggest transformation  stone from ceiling to floor, before, now the iridescent tiles in a shimmery green-blue! So Beautiful!

Bedding Anthropologie, art Home Goods.

Amazing Amy transformed this Mexican pine armoire into a wonderful media center in Master bedroom.

Mid-century chair from the Moon.

Desk made by Homer decopaged by Amy with paper she found on a trip to TN. She is so creative!

   Lamp from the Moon!

Office cabinet made by Homer.

Corbels and chandelier from the Moon.

Homer cabinet turned pantry.

Carey and Amy painted and stenciled the cement floor  in the entry kitchen and family room after the existing flooring was removed. They said it was a labor of love but well worth the results!

You may remember this vintage wine jug from the blog titled solitary elements in July.

Headboard in guest bedroom upholstered in Amy Butler fabric.

Our heartfelt props to Tampa’s own DIYer’s ,Carey , Amy & crew!

Thank you Carey for sharing your extraordinary home, it is such an example of style and heart!

A view of another soul-filled home! Homer arrives on Sat. with a truckload of goodies!

August 4, 2010

Thank You Patti for Sharing your beautiful home with us!

Stay tuned for more details about Homer’s delivery on sat.

I love to see where our fabulous furniture finds a home!

The chairs were slipcovered by the gifted Sherri and purchased from the Moon!

This was the table in the shop (see Feb. archives).  Homer recycled old heart of pine planks  from  the sub- flooring in a home-built over 100 years ago outside of Atlanta. Restoration at it’s finest!

Another cabinet made by our very talented  Homer, designed by Amazing  Amy!

Top front of cabinet made from vintage french doors, the bottom is bead board.

Side view of window cabinet. Made out of old windows and vintage recessed door panels.

French lever window handle is what we used for the hardware, click photo for closer view!

Slip covered chair by Sherri!  Schumacher Ming Dragon pillow(2) still in shop @ $75.00 ea.

Media cabinet designed by me (Katie), built by Homer out of warehouse doors and faux finished by Amy with plaster and paint!  Pulls from Anthropologie

Desk below was crafted from the bases of  two room dividers that once lived in a Hyde Park bungalow.  Top made by Homer out of old flooring. We’ve been recycling architectural salvage and building custom furniture long before we knew it was green, we just loved the character!

Another of Katie’s shop counters up for the offering, I’ve lost count of  how  many we’ve recycled!

 Front view of counter.  5″ l x 21 ” d x 35”h  @ $595.00

Side and inside view. A patchwork quilt of doors that married well!  The sides are one vintage  six paneled door cut into two pieces.

Top is a painted barn door sanded and sealed with wax! Love the hole where the door handle used to be.

We are  pleased to offer handcrafted furniture built to your specs with our warehouse full of architectural salvage, call or come into the store to discuss details!

Make it Metal

June 15, 2010

Starring our most popular farm table wrapped in Zinc

7′x40″ this table can be used inside or out.

The price is $1695.00

Whatever your style, be it industrial, coastal, bungalow, even tradtional this table takes on a different personality.

We left this one a soft chalky gray, but it can also be darkened to take on a more industrial feel.

Each table takes the acid wash differently so no two are alike, if darkened you see more of the wash pattern.

STOP in the shop and mention you saw this on the website for 15% off.

Going green island style

June 14, 2010

Our newest architectural  creation is a 64-inch long, 39-inch high, 25-inch deep kitchen island with two-inch heart-of-pine boards and a vintage, decorative window.

This wonderful island can be used inside or out for a fun  family gathering or entertaining friends.

The 2″ thick old heart of pine boards are sumptuous.

A new treasure

June 8, 2010

For all those who loved the custom-made refurbished furniture we wrote about a few months ago, take a look at what we have for you now! This desk was made by a friend to Blue Moon in Georgia with salvaged wood and furniture pieces. Classic!

It’s open on both sides underneath and would also make a great entrance table. We just love the sturdy look of the molded bases.

Come check it out for yourself!

True upcycling

May 24, 2010

Blue Moon has always believed in being green — even before green was hip! Salvaging items, turning trash into treasures: it’s what we’re all about. A great example just rolled into the shop.

This antique industrial cart on wheels makes a fantastic coffee table with character. But wait! There’s more. Blue Moon plans to repurpose the cart into a kitchen island by adding a top of reclaimed wood . Recycled and upgraded — we call that upcycling! Oh, and that colorful framed print? That’s a vintage poster from Paris, dated 1954. Tres chic!

The table’s on sturdy wheels and is affixed with four rare hickory sticks that were once used to guide the cart around some old factory. Just picture it!

Get bright!

April 19, 2010

This week we’re really feeling cheerful. Think pops of color, lively patterns and twinkly accessories. We decided to show you a mix of Blue Moon and Fresh Threads goodies that speak to the spirit of fun!

This bright orange cabinet would brighten any room. Fill it with mix-and-matched china or colorful books for an eclectic look. Or go with one color scheme. Perhaps all ivory, glass or a complementary hue, like teal.

Or use it as a wardrobe in your bedroom to display fun accessories. Picture colorful shoes all lined up in rows. Or purses!

This woven tote from Fresh Threads just screams summer, don’t you think?

The best presents come in small packages… small teal packages with white bows, right? Any of these lovely baubles would be sure to brighten you up! :)

Brand new custom creations!

February 23, 2010

Sure, we all love to find that perfect piece of scavenged perfection — that treasure tucked away in the corner of some antique store or flea market that seems made just for you. But once in awhile, it’s cool to have something that really WAS made just for YOU. And it’s even cooler if that something is made from bits and pieces of other salvaged treasures!

Thanks to a good friend of Blue Moon who has a 5,000-square foot architectural salvage warehouse outside of Vadalia, Ga., we have three new amazing items in the store. Each of these is an example of custom pieces you could order yourself!

This gorgeous farm table is made of 2×8 heart pine planks that are more than 100 years old! This is sold, but another is expected to arrive in the store Saturday! The price will be $1,450.

Also already scooped up is this huge wooden cabinet with french door fronts. So much storage! Another one, also $1,495, should be in on Saturday!

This black cabinet can be used as a bar, server, kitchen island or media station. We just love the wood top contrasted with the dark front. This one is $795.

And, like we said, you can order your own custom pieces similar to these in whatever size you need. Call us to set it up!

We’re on a roll with our newest find!

January 26, 2010

Our next fabulous find may look familiar. Perhaps you’ve seen something like this in the retail furniture world. Perhaps you thought “Wow, doesn’t that look authentic?” Perhaps it was overpriced. Well feast your eyes on this wooden treasure — an original industrial rolling cart full of years and character.

Check out the cool detail work.

Picture it as an accent piece or as a coffee table. Beautiful and functional!

There’s nothing like one-of-a-kind!
